That is hilarious Mir. Sometimes, I just don't know about Regina at all! I can't wait till you are reporting exciting stories for the newspaper! :) Too bad you couldn't be on TV, YOU ARE HOTT! I'd watch you ;). Haha just yokes! And I mean yokes, its the swedish influence on me! Anyways, I liked this, it was funny. Please update me on current events in Canada, although, right now, I'm sure its just OLYPMICS OLYMPICS OLYPMICS oh and wait, OLYMPICS.

Re: I really didn't want to get into this so early, but…

I totally agree with all of that, which you probably, um, know. What with
the rants about an unsustainable population I have had on many occasions.

Mostly it seems to be Africa's fault. I mean, China is overpopulated but at
least they have laws in place to keep the population levels down. Fucking
Christianity *coughCatholicismcough* will keep any Christian-dominated
countries from following that example, though. I'm severely displeased.

Re: I really didn't want to get into this so early, but…

Do we really want those people to be breeding though? I know that it's horrible, but the uncomfortable reality is that the planet can't really sustain the amount of people it currently has, let alone the growth rate we seem to be set on. I don't think its wise to count on science to get us out of this mess. Its going to take a revolutionary idea as huge as the invention of farming was to the hunter gatherer societies. If we can start with people who want to have children, then at least that's something. I also support euthanasia for terminal patients because its ridiculous that we treat animals with more humanity then humans. The fact that it wastes less of limited resources (doctors time, medicine) is kind of a nice side effect of not letting people suffer with the thought that they are going to die in that pain.

Re: I really didn't want to get into this so early, but…

There have been quite a few women who have claimed to be unaware that they
were preggers until BAM BABY. I have three questions: 1) how fat are you?,
2) how stupid are you? and 3) who are you trying to fool?

But, yes, it is possible to not know you're pregnant for quite some time -
you can still spot whilst pregnant so you'll just think 'oh, I had a light
period' and move on. But the blood was a LIE. A filthy, filthy LIE.

But twelve weeks is three months and, really, if you're having sex and don't
want a kid, you should be keeping track of your periods (and if they're
irregular... the Pill, fuckwit) and, thus, should probably notice by the
second month that, heeeey, there's somethin' growin' in there!

And, yeah, PETA disgusts me. As you well know. As for the lady who can
justify her insulin but still think animal testing is immoral... I dunno if
I mentioned this before, but there are pro-lifers that'll go in and have an
abortion because 'their circumstances are different'... and then they'll
just walk right back out and go back to picketing.

Re: I really didn't want to get into this so early, but…

I disagree that a woman would be able to make a decision by 12 weeks. I think your first assumption is faulty. Shame on you for having faith in humanity. There was that lady who didn't realize she was pregnant until it was popping out. That was such a horrible story with such a depressing ending. Its almost a joke, except thinking about it makes me feel ill. But I'm willing to bet there is less extreme versions of that

I love reading about blatant hypocrisy in protesters. Did you know that PETA is responsible for putting more animals down than anyone else in the US? True story. Also the lead lady thinks using animals for medicine is immoral, except when it comes to her getting her life sustaining insulin shots. Its suddenly amazing how she can justify it, but only for her, and no one else.

Re: I really didn't want to get into this so early, but…

I used to be against abortions, for religious reasons. That was back when I still had religion. The religious argument is so weak, and its a bit annoying it has so much pull in society. Did you know the bible actually ENDORSED abortions? If there was suspicion of the woman having infidelity, the husband could bring her to the priest who would give her a "bitter drink" which would cause her a lot of pain and leave her barren. Unless she wasn't guilty in which case God would protect her. Sort of like how God would protect non-witches in a witch trial.

What really changed my mind on the issue, is that there is a fairly strong correlation between legalized abortions and a decrease in major crimes around the time those babies would have reached adulthood. granted correlation doesn't necessarily equal causation, but it makes a lot of intuitive sense. In the end legalized abortions are better then if they are outlawed.

I guess after accepting that, then the only thing left to decide is when you draw the line between "fetus" and "baby". And I think before you can decide that you have to define life, which is tricky enough without religious nuts sticking their nose where it doesn't belong. I think putting at viability, is a bad metric because thats a moving target as medical science improves. and even then the quality of life is highly variable. I know theres a small movement building to put the line when brain activity starts, based on how we define death (when brain activity stops). I figure that makes as much sense as anything else proposed, "conception" excluded obviously.

I tried but failed to find an hilarious youtube video where this one woman went around asking people protesting abortions what they thought the punishment should be for the woman who gets an abortion, given that they consider it murder. None of them could answer.

Oh yeah, I'm nikki's friend, if you didn't already recognize my handle... This is a great way to introduce myself eh? XD

Re: Words and swords

*snorts*

AWESOME. Nearly as awesome as the guy with the bat'leth robbing convenience stores in Colorado Springs. That would have been something that would have been good to point out to certain people on some of those comment boards.

I agree with what you said in your last paragraph, about how it doesn't affect others and so they shouldn't be making such a big deal about it. But I'd just like to point out that there are people out there who would make the arguement that "the murder of a person you don't know doesn't affect you, either, so should we just let the murderer get away with it?" I don't agree with this arguement, as it's nowhere near the same level, but people tend to add it in, anyway.

And, it does sound like a good article. You should let me know where it is, if you ever remember. Otherwise, don't worry about it.

Re: I really didn't want to get into this so early, but…

lawl agreed with all of what you said. Though I would like to point out that abortion clinics tend to require psych screening before and after the procedure so that they can help women with the mental effects pregnancy and abortion have.

As for me and the fetus/baby thing... as soon as it is viable (thus able to survive outside of the mother's body), I consider it alive. Before that it is just a fetus - a potential for life.

With the twelve week cut off... ummm, that's three months. Assuming that you find out in one month, tops, that you're pregnant, that is a lot of time to debate the matter. If you can't decide by 12 weeks, just have the damned kid - clearly you don't really want to let it go.

Oooooh abortion. Such a ridiculous topic - imho, everyone should just leave everyone else alone. Some random person having an abortion does not affect you in any way, shape or form so just stfu and eat your broccoli. That being said, I read an article awhile back (can't remember where) that was talking about pro-life people having abortions because 'their situation is different' and, yet, remaining pro-life. And these are the crazy picketer pro-lifers. I wish I could remember the link - it was a really interesting article/study.

Re: An introduction

Hey, did you use the more tag?
